Creating Christian Community

Leah Libresco

Friday, September 21, 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Leah Libresco Sargeant will lead a workshop discussion on the sort of practical questions of Christian community-building she discusses in her book recently released book, “Building the Benedict Option: A Guide to Gathering Two or Three Together in His Name.” We’ll review examples of others that we admire and can imitate, discuss the works of mercy as a guide to planning specific events, and hash out particular logistical challenges (cooking for crowds, making new friends welcome) that we’ll likely encounter. She’ll ask those who attend a crucial but under-discussed question—how do you want to praise God with others? We will close by discussing what skills students feel like they need to develop in order to be able to open their lives to greater community (overcoming shyness, practicing methods of daily prayer, cooking), and how they can work on developing these strengths while a student in ways that prepare them for life after graduation.
