Event Overview

Dr. Frederick Simmons will be leading a three-week discussion series on theological ethics, theology and science, and theological aesthetics, respectively. In addition to offering an opportunity for intellectual fellowship, the goal of the series is to stimulate conversation about how and what it might mean to integrate our Christian convictions with goodness as understood in ethics, truth as understood in science, and beauty as understood in aesthetics.

To this end, the first week will explore the relationship between theology and ethics, focusing on three theories and goals of Christian ethics. The second week will examine three perennial options for relating theology and science, with special emphasis on their ability or inability to accommodate the contemporary scientific discoveries of evolutionary biology and global warming. The third and final week will expound contemporary theological aesthetics, allotting special attention to Christological natural aesthetics and various issues it raises for Christians.
