Professor Carlo Lancellotti has translated three of the Italian philosopher Augusto Del Noce’s works into English. In this talk, Professor Lancellotti will discuss del Noce’s thesis that since the 1960s modern societies have been slipping into a new form of totalitarianism that related to the rise of a technocratric society. What are the implications of Del Noce’s diagnosis of the crisis of modernity for sustaining politics and culture that further human freedom? What are some possible responses to what del Noce calls the “new totalitarianism” of modernity, drawing either on del Noce, or other analysts of modernity?
